Hi, I’m Heather, one of the co-founders of Hive and Honey, and a busy mom to three wonderful girls. My journey to homeschooling wasn’t a straight path, but one that has been full of learning, growth, and a deep desire to create a better educational experience for my kids—and others like them.
Before becoming a homeschooling mom, I worked as a registered nurse in both the hospital and home settings. This healthcare background taught me the importance of individualized care and attention—principles that I carry into my approach to homeschooling.
I also spent several years in the public school system as a teacher, where I taught both General Education and students with exceptional abilities. It was during this time that I saw firsthand the limitations of the traditional education system, and how often kids are left behind when the focus is on data instead of the individual. This experience left me longing for an approach that was more personalized—one that focused on meeting each child where they are, rather than trying to fit them into a one-size-fits-all model.
My journey led me to homeschooling, and it’s been a life-changing experience. I’ve seen the freedom and flexibility that comes with tailoring education to meet the unique needs of my kids. I want to share that same sense of empowerment with other homeschooling families, which is why I co-founded Hive and Honey.
My goal for Hive and Honey is simple: to provide much-needed resources, support, and community for homeschooling families. I know how challenging it can be to balance the demands of homeschooling with everything else in life, and I want to make that journey a little bit easier for you. Whether you’re looking for curriculum recommendations, resources for special needs learners, or simply a place to connect with other moms who get it, we’re here to help.
At Hive and Honey, we’re not just building a business—we’re building a community that supports and uplifts homeschooling families, one day at a time.

Hey! I am the other half of Hive and Honey Learning Co! Together with my husband, Ronnie, we are raising two of the coolest ladies I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Sixteen years ago, our oldest daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy, and with that came learning challenges. After trying to guide and work with the public school system for two years, it became very clear that public school simply did not have the staff or time to educate her in a way that would impact her long-term. My first step into homeschooling was in Pittsburgh, PA, where it is state-supported with all supplies. As my husband’s career grew, we entered what I call our nomad stage and moved every two years or so to a new state. That’s when I found out how hard it can be to homeschool with no support, pay out of pocket for all supplies, and navigate educating a child with special needs. The BEST part of that journey is how much I was able to learn about the different ways children learn and how to teach in a fluid manner to support them. Eventually, as our youngest chose public school for herself, I took a position in her school working in special education and general education. That is where I absolutely had my heart broken by how overstretched that system was, especially for the higher grades. Combine that with my drive to be a village for those who don’t have a built-in one, and four years ago, I knew my calling was to support homeschool learning. After years of refusing to transfer to Florida, I decided a little salty air was just what our next chapter needed and moved to Pensacola, where I met Heather at softball practice for our girls. She was a homeschool mom, and one day, in a random text, we found out we had the same calling for the same four years. Just like that, she said, "Okay, let’s do this."
My greatest goal for Hive and Honey is to be that place where parents can say, “I’m not alone.” Where students can flourish and be seen. Where families don’t have to trade needed incomes to be the sole educator in their family. And to make this the affordable, sustainable, rewarding path I have gotten to experience for myself.
